Scott Willson’s Mom’s Apple Pie

Ingredients:

Crust:

  • 1 c. flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ c. shortening
  • 3-4 Tbl. cold water

Combine all ingredients by cutting in the shortening and using only the water needed. Roll out into a circle and place into a pie pan. (Alternatively, use a ready-made pie crust.)

Filling:

  • 5-7 tart apples, preferably Granny Smith, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 1 Tbl. flour (or ¼ c.)
  • ¾ tsp. cinnamon (or 1 tsp.)
  • ½ c. white sugar (or brown sugar)

Combine all ingredients and place into the unbaked pie shell.

Crumb Topping:

  • 6 Tbl. butter
  • ⅓ c. white sugar (or brown sugar)
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¾ c. flour

Directions:

Combine all ingredients and place on top of the apple mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
